Window on America(WOA)

Overview

Window on America

In 2005, the U.S. Embassy Seoul began establishing "Window on America" bookshelves, housing books and stocks of the U.S. Government free publications in English and Korean in high visibility areas throughout Korea, such as the main libraries at Seoul National University, the Korea National Defense University, Chonnam National University in Gwangju, Busan National University, and youth community centers.

As of now 35 WOA has been established throughout Korean Peninsula. As with the American Corners, the Window on America is a partnership between the U.S. Embassy Seoul and the hosting institution. The hosting institution is responsible for providing an ideal place for the publications and for maintaining the shelves, while Public Affairs Seoul is responsible for providing the materials.

Vision

"Window on America" Bookshelf will be a fresh fountain of information for those who have a thirst for trustworthy information about the United States. It provides access for tens of thousands of Koreans outside the major population centers of the country to accurate and authoritative information about the United States and promote the society and culture of the United States to Korean audiences.

Furthermore, it will build a communication network by placing brochures and feedback sheets at "Window on America".

The U.S. Embassy Seoul will make every effort to serve young Koreans who look for information and materials and to make America’s voice heard to an even wider audience.
