Temporary Computer Problem Resolved in U.S. Embassy
August 25, 2004
On August 25, 2004 the Embassy experienced a series of computer malfunctions that interrupted all of it computer systems, including consular operations. The Embassy expects nonimmigrant visa and immigrant visa processing to be back to normal on August 26, 2004.
A computer switch, which controls the unclassified systems at the Embassy, including all computer-based consular operations, had blown and a new switch had to be installed to correct the problem. Some visa applicants who had appointments during the time that services were suspended were processed on the same day, August 25, during the morning and through the lunch hour. Throughout the morning and in the afternoon consular officials offered applicants with affected appointments on August 25 an open appointment letter that entitles them to special, expedited service. After going through security, these applicants are permitted to go directly to the emergency window on the second floor and have their case adjudicated during regular business hours. Qualified applicants will receive their visas the same day as their interview.
The Embassy deeply regrets the inconvenience caused to our visa applicants and appreciates the patience shown by the applicants while our services were temporarily suspended.
