Civil Servant Channel

Eligible Applicants: 

Civil Servants who have worked at one of the below listed Ministries for more than one year and Provincial Government Officials who have worked for the below listed cities/provinces for more than one year, and their immediate family members (children under 21 years of age and spouse), who wish to apply for visitor (B1/B2) visa for short-term business or pleasure.

List of Eligible Ministries: 

Blue House, Office of the Prime Minister, National Assembly, Courts, Finance and Economy, Unification, Foreign Affairs and Trade, Justice, National Defense, Government Administration and Home Affairs, Education and Human Resources Development, Science and Technology, Culture and Tourism, Agriculture and Forestry, Commerce/Industry/Energy, Health and Welfare, Information and Communication, Environment, Labor, Construction and Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, or Gender Equality and Family.

List of Eligible Provincial Government Entities:

Seoul Metropolitan City, Busan Metropolitan City, Daegu Metropolitan City, Incheon Metropolitan City, Gwangju Metropolitan City, Daejeon Metropolitan City, Ulsan Metropolitan City, Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do, Jeollanbuk-do, Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongsangnam-do or Jeju-do.

Required Documents:

  • A signed passport valid for at least six months after your date of entry into the U.S., with any covers removed.
  • A completed and signed Nonimmigrant Visa Application (DS-156) with photo (See "photo requirements" for the DS-156) for each applicant.
  • A completed Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application (DS-157) for each applicant.
  • A receipt from Shinhan Bank for the visa processing fee. The fee may be paid at any of the bank's branches in Korea. There is a branch only a short walk from the Embassy; here is a map. A receipt showing payment of the visa application fee for each applicant, including each child listed in a parent's passport who is also applying for a U.S. visa, is needed.
  • Identification badge.
  • Letter from your Ministry’s/Provincial Office's/City's personnel department confirming identity and work history.
  • Certificate of Family Relationship (previously referred to as Family Census Registry), if applying with family members. Note in certain cases the Embassy may also ask to see additional documents including Basic Certificate, Certificate of Marital Status, and/or Adoption Certificate.A courier receipt from an Embassy-approved courier company within Korea. Courier forms are available at the courier service offices or by contacting either Ilyang (1588-0002; www.ilyanglogis.com) or Hanjin (1588-0011; www.hanjin.co.kr) courier company directly.
  • Documents in Korean do not need to be translated into English.

All current Korean diplomats and accredited diplomats to Korea, and their immediate family members who are applying for B1/B2 visas with their diplomatic passports or equivalent are not required to pay the MRV processing fee at Shinhan Bank.
