U.S. Visa Waiver Program Passport Requirements

United States Visa Waiver Program (VWP) travelers must possess an e-Passport to be eligible to enter the U.S. without a visa.  An e-Passport is a biometric passport which is capable of storing the biographic information from the data page, a digitized photograph and other biometric information.

Outlined below are e-Passport requirements for travelers applying for admission to the United States under the U.S. VWP. Please check with the passport issuing agency in your country if you have specific questions.

If your passport is not an e-Passport, you will need to obtain a visa. Please see “Getting a Visa”.

e-Passport Validity Requirements for Visa Waiver Program (VWP) Travel

Eligibile VWP travelers may present an e-Passport valid for six months past their expected stay in the United States.  Korean and certain other country passports are exempt from this requirement based on country-specific agreements.  This includes all categories of e-Passports - regular, diplomatic, and official, when the traveler is seeking to enter the United States for business or tourism purposes, for a maximum of 90 days.

Please note admission into the United States may not be granted by the immigration authorities for a period extending beyond the actual expiration date shown in the e-Passport.
