Announcement of Intention to Nominate Christopher R. Hill as Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs

President Bush announced on March 4, 2005, that he intends to nominate U.S. Ambassador to Korea Christopher R. Hill as Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs.

Ambassador Hill's nomination will be sent to the U.S. Senate for confirmation.

The confirmation process begins in the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, which schedules a hearing to review the nominations.

The Committee on Foreign Relations will then forward the nomination, if approved by the committee , to the full Senate for consideration.

If the full Senate approves the nomination, the president then appoint s the nominee to the position.
