U.S. Embassy to Host "U.S. Education Fair" at Daegu Metropolitan Library

The U.S. Embassy is pleased to invite media to attend the "U.S. Education Fair" at the Daegu Metropolitan Jungang Library. The U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section, in cooperation with the Daegu Metropolitan Jungang Library and the U.S. Education Center of the Korean-American Educational Commission, is hosting the first-ever U.S. Education Fair at the Daegu American Corner on Friday, April 14, 2006, from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. The Education Fair will provide information to students, parents, teachers, and education officials on the many opportunities to study in the U.S. There will also be a spelling bee contest, with prizes for contestants at all levels. American snacks and beverages will also be provided. Guest speakers will include the following:
 
      • U.S. Embassy Visa Chief Daria Darnell
        “Applying for a Student Visa”
 
      • Korean-American Educational Commission Deputy Director James Larson
        “Testing and U.S. Educational Opportunities”
 
      • U.S. Embassy Senior English Language Fellow Thomas Santos
        “Simple and Easy English Teaching Methods at Home: Parents Workshop”
 
In addition, U.S. Embassy Officer John Choi and Library Director Son Dae Cheon will provide welcoming and opening remarks for the event. Before the U.S. Education Fair, U.S. Embassy Visa Chief Ms. Daria Darnell will hold a press interview about U.S. visa-related issues at the Daegu American Corner from 12:30-1:30 p.m. All sessions are open to press and consecutive interpretation will be provided.
 
The Daegu American Corner opened in the Daegu Metropolitan Jungang Library on March 19, 2004.  Sponsored by the U.S. Embassy and Korean public libraries, American Corners Korea is a joint partnership project that promotes cooperation and understanding between the U.S. and Korea by providing open, accurate, and factual information about the United States in a variety of formats to Korean people.
