U.S. Embassy Seoul Commemorates Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday and Black History Month
On Friday, January 20, 2006 at 9:30 a.m., the Information Resource Center (IRC) of the
U.S. Embassy in Seoul will host the first of this year’s Holiday Series Program, in honor
of Martin Luther King, Jr. “The Legacy of Rosa Parks” will feature via Digital Video
Conference (DVC) a keynote talk by The Reverend Doctor Elbert Ransom, Jr., President
of REACH, Inc., a human relations firm. Dr. Ransom worked alongside Dr. Martin
Luther King during the Montgomery Bus Boycott and Civil Rights campaigns.
Participants at the American Corner in Daegu will also join the Seoul audience via DVC.
Rosa Parks was a brave seamstress in Montgomery, Alabama, who refused to give up her
bus seat to a white passenger, and this incident ignited the modern civil rights movements
in the United States in 1955. She was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of
Freedom. Ms. Parks passed away in late 2005.
