U.S. Embassy Seoul Commemorates Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday and Black History Month

January 19, 2006
06-06

On Friday, January 20, 2006 at 9:30 a.m., the Information Resource Center (IRC) of the U.S. Embassy in Seoul will host the first of this year’s Holiday Series Program, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. “The Legacy of Rosa Parks” will feature via Digital Video Conference (DVC) a keynote talk by The Reverend Doctor Elbert Ransom, Jr., President of REACH, Inc., a human relations firm. Dr. Ransom worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King during the Montgomery Bus Boycott and Civil Rights campaigns. Participants at the American Corner in Daegu will also join the Seoul audience via DVC.

Rosa Parks was a brave seamstress in Montgomery, Alabama, who refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger, and this incident ignited the modern civil rights movements in the United States in 1955. She was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Ms. Parks passed away in late 2005.

This program is free of charge and is open to the public. Media are welcome to attend.

For general information about the event, please contact IRC staff at 02-397-4605 or 4647.
