U.S. Embassy Seoul Celebrates Labor Day 2006

On Friday, September 15, 2006 at 9:30 a.m., the Information Resource Center (IRC) of the Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy Seoul, will hold its fourth Holiday Series Program in honor of U.S. Labor Day.  “The History and Meaning of Labor Day” will feature a keynote talk conducted via Digital Video Conference (DVC) with Associate Professor of History Jefferson Cowie, School of Industrial and Labor Relations, Cornell University. Audiences in Seoul will be joined by participants at Yeungnam University via DVC.  The festivities in Seoul will continue throughout the day and feature discussions with American experts on labor issues and American trivia quizzes (with prizes). Consecutive interpretation will be provided.

Participants will be welcomed by Chargé d'affaires ad interim William A. Stanton and Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs Gerald McLoughlin.  Ms. Jill Perry, Human Resources Officer of the U.S. Embassy, will discuss the topic, “Recruiting for the U.S. Embassy and How to Present Yourself in an Interview,” at 1:00-2:00 p.m.

The U.S. Embassy Holiday Series celebrates American holidays and other special events, and the Information Resource Center of the Public Affairs Section invites college students, high school students, and other youth groups.  The program is free of charge and is open to the public. Media are welcome to attend.
