Ambassador Vershbow's Condolences
over the tragic death of Sergeant Yoon Jang-ho

February 28, 2007

The United States Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Alexander Vershbow, expressed condolences over the tragic death of Sergeant Yoon Jang-ho in the letter below addressed to Minister of National Defense Kim Jang-soo today:

On behalf of the United States Government, I would like to offer you and the Korean people our most sincere condolences for the tragic loss of Sergeant Yoon Jang-ho in Bagram, Afghanistan yesterday.  We were deeply saddened to learn of his death.  This terrorist attack also took the lives of Americans and Afghans.

The United States and the Republic of Korea have stood hand-in-hand as allies and friends while defending democracy and freedom in Korea, Vietnam, and during the global war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Please know that the American people know, understand, and appreciate the enormous sacrifice made by your soldiers.

Please extend to Sergeant Yoon’s family the deepest sympathy of the American people for their loss.
