March 27, 2007

On Wednesday, March 28 the U.S. Embassy in Seoul will hold a Women’s Forum in honor of Women’s History Month.  The forum will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Embassy’s Information Resource Center (IRC) in Seoul.  The theme of the forum will be “Women in the 21st Century and Beyond.”

Ambassador Alexander Vershbow will welcome the audience, and Embassy officials will discuss the following topics.

- Helen Hwang: Observations on the progress of women professionals.
- Erin Webster-Main: U.S. efforts to promote gender equality.
- Grace Choi: Comparing different countries’ maternity leave policies.
- Lena Levitt: Ending violence against women.

In 1981, the U.S. Congress passed a resolution establishing National Women's History Week.  In 1987, Congress expanded the week to a month.  Women’s History Month recognizes and celebrates the rich and varied contributions of women to the history and culture of the United States and beyond.
