Rebuilding Iraq: Subcontracting Opportunities Regional Conference

The U.S. Embassy Seoul, the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and KOTRA are organizing a conference titled "Rebuilding Iraq: Subcontracting Opportunities Regional Conference" on April 28, 2004, in Seoul. The conference is sponsored by the Korean Government's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE), the Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) and the Ministy of Finance and Economy (MOFE).

The purpose of the conference is to solicit interest on the part of North East Asian sub-contractors and equipment suppliers in participating in major projects for the reconstruction of Iraq. The conference will provide up-to-date information on Iraq rebuilding sub-contracting opportunities resulting from recent prime contracts that have been awarded by the Coalition Provisional Authority's Program Management Office of the U.S. Department of Defense.

There will be two opportunities for media coverage:

I. Press interested in covering the opening of the conference should contact KITA directly, at 02-6000-5358.

II. The U.S. Embassy will host a press conference for the American delegation on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the "Moderato" room of the COEX Intercontinental Hotel. Consecutive interpretation into Korean will be provided.

Participants will be U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary William H. Lash III, and Jonathan Thompson, Director of Communications and Planning for the Coalition Provisional Authority Program Management Office. Other participants may include representatives of the prime contractors seeking subcontractor support.

Journalists wishing to participate in this event must R.S.V.P. to the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs office before 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27. Media Representatives must bring their press card and one additional photo I.D. with them and must arrive at the "Moderato" room of the COEX Intercontinental Hotel before 10:30 a.m. on April 28 to allow sufficient time for security clearance on entering the room.
