Statement by the Press Secretary on the Contributions by the Republic of Korea to Afghanistan

We welcome the announcement by the government of the Republic of Korea to expand its assistance to the Government of Afghanistan and its people by establishing a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), in addition to the Medical and Vocational Training Team that South Korea is already operating.  This is an important contribution to the international effort in Afghanistan and to fostering reconstruction and stability in the region.  The U.S. will continue to work closely in partnership with Korea as we support the people and government of Afghanistan.

우리는 한국 정부가 아프가니스탄에서 이미 운영 중인 의료• 직업훈련팀에 이어 지역재건팀을 구성하여 아프간 정부와 국민에 대한 지원을 확대하기로 한 것을 환영한다. 이는 아프가니스탄에서의 국제적인 노력과, 지역 재건 및 안정에 중요한 기여를 할 것이다. 미국은 아프간 국민과 정부를 지원하는데 있어 한국과의 긴밀한 동반자 관계를 지속해 나갈 것이다.
